Hyde hoover up four new recruits

Nick Spooner has brought more depth into his Hyde United squad with the addition of four new players.

Taylor Dyson is a 22-year-old midfielder who joins the Ewen Fields outfit spending four years playing in the US collegiate system – a route also taken by new teammate Matt Fearnley.

Invited down to the club on the recommendation of Tigers full-back Harry Ditchfield, who was in the same Salford City youth team, Dyson began his stint in America with two seasons at Notre Dame College on the outskirts of Cleveland, Ohio.

His appearance in the United Soccer Coaches All-America Second Team prompted a move across the state to Bowling Green University but was mainly used from the bench.

After graduating in sports management, Dyson turned out for Toledo Villa in the fourth tier USL-2 competition.

He does have some experience of playing senior football in England, making 11 appearances for Trafford at the end of last season in the Northern Premier League (NPL) West and forcing his way into the starting lineup for the last four fixtures.

Joining Dyson in the centre of the park is versatile Irishman Callum Stringer.

The 23-year-old started out at his hometown club Waterford before moving to Cobh Ramblers, where the likes of Roy Keane and Stephen Ireland learned their trade.

He relocated to England in 2023, playing for Essex sides Maldon & Tiptree and Basildon United, before signing for NPL West side Congleton Town prior to the start of last season, where he also filled in at right-back.

Further up the pitch, the Tigers have also recruited winger Mwiya ‘Mo’ Malumo.

A familiar face around the North West non-League scene, the former Wigan academy player has represented Zambia at Under-20 and Under-23 levels.

He has also turned out for – among others – Radcliffe, Nantwich Town, FC United, Farsley Celtic, Abbey Hey and Wythenshawe, who he scored the winner for in his only appearance in a 1-0 win at Mossley in March.

Leading the line will be Nyal Bell [pictured], who returns to the club after recovering from a persistent injury following treatment at St George’s Park.

The 28-year-old striker last played in February 2024, coming off the bench in Hyde’s 2-1 NPL defeat at Whitby Town.

Before his long rehabilitation, Bell played for Rochdale, Stockport County, Gateshead and Kidderminster Harriers.
