Stockport Town roared to their second consecutive 3-0 away win in the North West Counties (NWCFL) Premier Division with victory at Abbey Hey on Tuesday night.

George Kattah picked up where he left off against South Liverpool with a goal either side of half-time to take his tally to four for the season.

The former Hyde United youngster has already settled into life at Stockport Sports Village, stepping back up a division after netting a goal per game for Droylsden in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.

“It went fantastic, 100%,” he told Town’s media channel after the game. “I came here with one job, and one job only, and that is to score.

“I’m happy with the performance, but it all comes down to the team.

“Now that we’ve started the season, I’m taking it very, very serious. I haven’t got anything in my head other than scoring.

“I’ve played here a few times, so I knew what their weaknesses were, and I scored two goals, but I should’ve got a hat-trick.”

Kattah opened the scoring just before half-time, volleying home after latching onto a header by player-manager Paul Turnbull.

Despite starting the second period on the front foot, Abbey Hey found their attack blunted by the dismissal of forward Rhys Clooney for a mis-timed challenge on Town’s Jack Atkinson.

The Lions took full advantage, with Kattah sprinting onto a defence-splitting pass and beating home keeper Connor Beard in the one-on-one to make it 0-2 on the hour.

Kattah almost turned provider as the clock ticked down, teeing up Callum Gardner, but Beard was equal to his shot.

However, there was still time for substitute Josh Fowles to round off the scoring in the sixth minute of stoppage time – also adding to his goal on Saturday – to move the Lions to the top of the nascent Premier Division table, ahead of three other sides on maximum points: Padiham, Pilkington and Ramsbottom United.

Both Abbey Hey and Stockport Town begin their FA Cup campaigns in the Extra Preliminary Round on Saturday, with Abbey hosting AFC Liverpool and Town on the road at Chadderton.
