Weapons and drugs seized in Gorton sting

Cocaine, cannabis and a cache of weapons were seized by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) after stopping a suspected stolen car in Gorton.

The driver and a passenger ran off after being pulled over on Mount Road yesterday (July 31), with officers finding drugs, paraphernalia and cash during their search.

Police traced the driver to a house on nearby Tealby Road, where they uncovered more cannabis, money and a stash of weapons including a zombie knife, machete, knuckle duster and a ninja sword.

They also confiscated two Surron e-bikes, which were suspected of being stolen.

“Since Operation Venture’s formation in 2022, officer have made significant progress in cracking down on violence and knife crime across Greater Manchester,” said GMP’s Detective Inspector Roger Edwards.

“These arrests show why we are out patrolling key areas to take dangerous weapons off the streets before they cause serious harm.

“With tighter government regulations now in force around the sale and possession of knives, it will enable us to ensure we can keep communities safe.”

A nationwide ban on the possession of ninja swords came into force today (August 1), while zombie knives were outlawed last September.

Officers arrested two men aged 25 and 22, along with two women aged 50 and 20, on suspicion on possession of class A and B drugs with intent to supply, possession of an offensive weapon, handling stolen goods, and theft of a motor vehicle.
