Signal fault behind rail delays this morning

Thousands of rail passengers in Manchester and Stockport have been forced to make other travel plans due to a signalling fault in Romiley.

Trains are not stopping at stations on the Hope Valley Line between Belle Vue and Romiley after the fault emerged this morning, with an hourly rail replacement shuttle bus now serving them.

The affected stations are:

– Belle Vue
 – Ryder Brow
 – Reddish North
 – Brinnington
 – Bredbury
 – Romiley

Services between Manchester Piccadilly and New Mills Central, and Manchester Piccadilly to Rose Hill Marple will all divert via Woodley, while services to Sheffield will instead go via Hazel Grove.

Train operator Northern expects the disruption to last until 1pm, with Network Rail engineers on site to make repairs.

A spokesperson for Northern said: “All ticket restrictions have been lifted at this time – customers may travel via any reasonable route with Northern to reach their destination.

“Ticket acceptance is in place with East Midlands Railway and TransPennine Express to travel via any reasonable route.”
