No-no to GoGo for pizza chain

A pizza takeaway will need to change its ‘inappropriate’ signage after its original one fell foul of conservation area guidelines.

Planners have given the Stockport branch of Pizza GoGo at 55 Wellington Road South the green light to remove the current red, white and blue signage above the shop in favour of more subtle brown and yellow hues.

The takeaway lies in the St Peters Conservation Area – one of 37 within the borough – two doors up from the 110-year-old, Grade II-listed Stockport Central Library.

“The Conservation Officer does not raise objection to the proposal, considering the advertisement to preserve the character and appearance of the key historic building and the wider designated Heritage Asset, with no harm to its special significance,” said a report from Stockport Council.

“The advertisement will replace previous signs, and as such is not considered to result in any additional signage or general clutter.”

Based in Essex, Pizza GoGo has expanded to more than 100 takeaways across the country, most in the southeast, since its founding in 1987.

The Stockport branch opened its doors in February this year.
