A three-week-old girl already has her name in the history books after becoming the first birth registered at a new community hub.
Stockroom, based at Merseyway in Stockport town centre, opened its doors to baby registrations on Thursday (July 10), with Jen and Dan Nixon from Cheadle first in the queue with their daughter Brianna.
The first-time visitors to the venue also signed Brianna up as a library member, a service offered to all parents in Stockport when they register their children.
“Stockroom is in a really convenient location and it’s a lovely space,” the proud parent said.
“Our two-year-old son would love the children’s play area, and we’ll definitely visit again soon as a family.”
Councillor Dan Oliver welcomed them to the building, which also houses the town’s archives, a library, sensory room, and exhibition space among other facilities.
“It was a pleasure to welcome Jen, Dan and baby Brianna as the first birth registration at Stockroom,” Cllr Oliver, Stockport Council’s cabinet member for culture, said.
“This space was created to bring public services and community life together, and this milestone is a wonderful example of that vision in action. Stockroom was always meant to be a place for everyone – and moments like this show why.
“Stockroom isn’t just a place to register a birth—it’s a place to return to, to play, learn, discover and connect. We’re proud that families can now start their journey here, in the heart of Stockport.”
New parents can register births at Stockroom by appointment each Thursday.
